Dr. Rodney R. Reid is a physician trained in internal medicine and rheumatology who has provided health care for our community at large and specifically to veterans, our nation’s heroes, for over 30 years. He became the second rheumatologist to ever work at the Dorn Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) and the first African American rheumatologist. He was also the first African American associate chief of medicine at Dorn VAMC. He has been recognized as the Dorn VA Man of the Year, Doctor of the Year of the Palmetto Medical, Dental, Pharmaceutical Association, and received the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Dean’s Distinguished Service Award, the highest award offered. His commitment to community and service includes VA associate professor of medicine at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine; past president of the Palmetto Medical, Dental, and Pharmaceutical Association; and executive committee member of the National Medical Association Region III. He has been a guest on the ABC “Good Morning America, Show,” radio programs, as well as a speaker for the National Medical Association on arthritis programs. Additionally, he has participated in health programs for many churches and schools. Moreover, he was honored by the
Richland Two School District for his service as president of the School Improvement Council. Dr. Reid and his wife, Demetra, share a vision to continue to serve the community as chair and co-chair, respectively, of The DREAMS Foundation, continuing the legacy of their parents and establishing a foundation of service for their children and future generations. Dr. Reid’s other highest honor is being a parent to his adult children Robert, Patrick, Rachel, Morgan, Arthur, Quinton (son-in-law) and being grandparent to Arlington.
